How To Renew FSSAI Food License Online

For any food business enterprise, registering for the FSSAI Food License is imperative. FSSAI license is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The said license ensures a minimum quality of food products sold under the brand name. It has built a comprehensive system of licensing and registration when certain minimum criteria are met. The license remains for a said period up till when the validity continues, ranging from 1 to 5 years.
However, post the said period allotted to the FSSAI license, it is important that the food enterprise applies for a renewal. Running a food business without having a legally valid FSSAI license for the business attracts penalty and termination of business involving the manufacture and sale of food products.
The FSSAI guidelines suggest that at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the FSSAI License, application for renewal is to be made. If this guideline is flouted then there be levying of a penalty.  Generally, the penalty for non-application for the renewal of FSSAI license is Rs.100 per day. Here are some of the essentials of renewal of an expired FSSAI license.

Documents required to apply for renewal of an expired FSSAI License:

There are two types of FSSAI license, one is the basic FSSAI license  and the other is the state-wise FSSAI License where the business operations are being carried out:
For the renewal of the basic FSSAI license, the following documents are required:

• Two copies of a latest dates passport-sized photograph of the applicant
• Anyone government-approved identification proof of the applicant. It could either be a Voter ID card or a Passport.
• Photocopy of a valid PAN Card of the applicant
• Anyone government authorised Address Proof. It could either be the telephone or electricity bill.
• If the applicant is the owner of the said property, then it is necessary to furnish two copies of the property papers. Copy of Property papers
• If the applicant is a tenant of the said property, then it is necessary to furnish a copy of the Rent Agreement and No Objection Certificate letter from the Landlord.

For the renewal of a state-wise or the central FSSAI license, the following documents are required:

• In relation to a property in question, the list of proprietor, members, partners or directors of the society. The list should correspond with the addresses and contact details of the persons so listed
• Anyone government-approved identification proof of the applicant. It could either be a Voter ID card or a Passport.
• Photocopy of a valid PAN Card of the applicant
• Anyone government authorised Address Proof. It could either be the telephone or electricity bill.
• If the applicant is the owner of the said property, then it is necessary to furnish two copies of the property papers. Copy of Property papers
• If the applicant is a tenant of the said property, then it is necessary to furnish a copy of the Rent Agreement and No Objection Certificate letter from the Landlord.
• In case the said property is under the control of a partnership, then a copy of the Memorandum of Agreement or Association of Agreement or the Partnership Deed, as the case may be.
• In case it is a co-operative, then the copy of the certificate obtained under the Co-operative Act, 1861 should be produced.
• In case the property is under the control of a distributor, then a copy of the No Objection Certificate from the manufacturer or from the Municipality or local body should be furnished.
• A copy of the E-Code document issued by DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade)
• Form IX filled mentioning the nomination of persons by a Company along with the Board Resolution

Procedure for renewal of an expired FSSAI license:

1 The first step is the filling of  The Form A or Form B as per the eligibility of the Food Business Operator. Form A and Form B are the forms consisting of the business activities for the FBO. These forms are to be accompanied with the self-attested declaration by the applicant that there shall be compliance with the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standard Act. Attach the documents given in the prior section along with the said forms

2 The second step on receiving the application is verification wherein the authorities would examine the application submitted and arrange for an inspection at the mentioned business premises if it is required. The verification is done in order to make sure that the details so furnished are correct and true to the knowledge of the applicant.
3 The third step is the stage of completion wherein based upon the results of the verification, the license may be issued.  Once issued, the license should be available in not more than  60 days to reach the applicant. If after the expiration of 60 days,  the applicant is not in receipt of the license, then the applicant needs to wait for it and can validly resume the business in question.
