THE BEST LAW FIRMS AND THE BEST LAWYERS.

If we talk about the best and successful law firms or lawyers then we are talking about there skills and knowledge, not about their revenue earned or their big offices. To determine what makes a lawyer/law firm successful, you must first define success. Success may be defined several ways. If we talk about success in lawyer’s preference then it must be the favorable and desired outcome, say like winning a case. There is a difference between a good lawyer and a successful lawyer, In an ideal world great lawyers would also be successful lawyers. But sadly, many great lawyers are not successful. Being a great lawyer requires a combination of high intelligence, strong analytical and advocacy skills, and an ability to communicate effectively. And on other hand if we talk about successful lawyers then they have some additional skills like Attracting clients will necessitate networking, relationship building, public speaking, and learning how to influence and motivate.

As a young attorney, it is important that you attend legal workshops within your area of practice. Never stop learning. That applies to learning how to be successful, too. Here are some key values that an attorney must have –

  1. Good communication skills – Lawyers must be orally articulate, have good written communication skills and also be good listeners. In order to argue convincingly in the courtroom before juries and judges, good public speaking skills are essential.
  2. Judgmental skills – The ability to draw reasonable, logical conclusions or assumptions from limited information is essential as a lawyer.
  3. Analytical skills – Both the study and practice of law involve absorbing large quantities of information, then having to distill it into something manageable and logical.
  4. Research skills – As a lawyer it is being able to research quickly and effectively is essential to understanding your clients, their needs, and to preparing legal strategies.
  5. Be innovative – Put your ego aside and remain open to creative and reasonable solutions. The legal industry is changing; be willing to create and adopt effective and cost-efficient processes in servicing your clients.
  6. Attitude is everything – Being enthusiastic a real interest must be in your firm and your clients. Although challenging, having a positive attitude in difficult situations is necessary. You should not allow doubt and fear of failure take control.
  7. Accept failure – Accepting failure is a part of success, a lawyer must learn from his failures and always try to improve himself.
  8. Client service – In the client-focused legal industry, serving the client capably, honestly, and responsibly is crucial to success.

In today’s world a law firms and  great lawyers are totally working for money purpose but the major thing was that a lawyer or a law firm must understand that what a client want from them. Most lawyers want to build a strong client relationship. They believe that when they are professional, logical, and offer good advice (and resolve the matter) that they have provided the elements of a good relationship. Clients see it entirely differently. As clients reach out to lawyers during the most stressful life events, like getting a divorce, death of a spouse, or suffering personal injury or illness. Clients understand intellectually that they need your help to resolve their legal problem, but what they actually want is comfort, reassurance, and connection. Perhaps what clients want most from their lawyer is connection. The nice thing is that you can give your clients that peace of mind by simply saying: “I’m here for you and you will get through this.”

The lawyers must balance his time for the court, clients, friends and family. Everyone wants some of your time. The life for a lawyer if very challenging, i.e., how to build and grow your practice, provide great service to your clients, but allow yourself to have the life you’ve hoped a lucrative practice would provide. On the one hand, you don’t want to turn away clients or have them hire someone else. The solution is not easy, but it’s simple. It will take discipline and determination, but it’s doable. It’s not rocket science: you should set priorities for your professional and personal lives, and then prioritize tasks and effectively manage your time. Certainly, some factors will always be out of your control and will be challenging—court dates, deadlines, and the uncertainty that comes with dealing with other people and their own priorities.
